Classification Construction > Construction Management Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Construction methodology refers to the planned method of construction, taking into account all contractual and legal requirements, construction constraints, risks, and opportunities. Methodology includes the temporary and permanent works and the services required to complete the construction works. Construction planning refers to understanding what has to be built, then establishing the right method, the right plant and the right labour force to carry out the works safely and to the quality required, in the most economical way to meet the client requirements. Medium buildings are light to medium weight commercial or industrial buildings up to three levels above ground which utilise commercial or industrial materials, construction techniques, and services. Pre-contract refers to activities before a contract is let for construction of the works. Post-contract refers to activities after a contract is let for the construction of the works. Specifications refer to documented instructions and may include any of the following: manufacturer’s specifications, recommendations or technical data sheets; material specifications; specifications from a specialist source such as an architect, designer, engineer or a supervisor; site or work specific requirements. Sustainability means the ability to complete building works using a minimum of the earth’s resources, and having minimal negative effect on the environment. 2 All activities must comply with any policies, procedures, and requirements of the organisation/s involved; the ethical codes of relevant professional bodies; and any relevant legislative and/or regulatory requirements. 3 Legislation and publications relevant to this unit standard includes: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Resource Management Act 1991; Building Act 2004. Evidence requirements 1.1 The pre-contract construction plan includes integrated documentation. Range drawings and specifications, construction methodology, health and safety plan, quality assurance plan; construction plan – construction budget, consultants’ timelines. 1.2 The influence of pre-contract documents, legislation, and client requirements are identified and integrated in the pre-contract construction plan. 1.3 Pre-contract construction plan outlines the resources and constraints. Range resources – plant, labour, subcontractors; constraints – site requirements, time, cost, environmental/sustainability, cultural and legal issues, health and safety, resource management implications. Outcome 2 Develop a post-contract construction plan for a medium building. Evidence requirements 2.1 The post-contract construction plan includes integrated documentation. Range drawings and specifications, construction methodology, health and safety plan, quality assurance plan; construction plan – construction budget, consultants’ timelines, shop drawings, variations. 2.2 The influence of contract documents, legislation, and contract requirements are identified and integrated in the post-contract construction plan. 2.3 The post-contract construction plan outlines the resources and constraints. Range resources – plant, labour, subcontractors; constraints – site requirements, time, cost, environmental/sustainability, cultural and legal issues, health and safety, resource management implications, inspections and testing.
