Classification Construction > Construction Management Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions A construction site operation may form part of an organisation’s activities or it may constitute a complete organisation. Contract documentation refers to plans and drawings, contract drawings, work or product specifications relating to the specified construction site operation; Contract drawings are defined as the set of drawings associated with a building project as agreed by contract, and can include plans, elevations, sections, details or any other drawings that give information about a building project. Specifications refer to documented instructions (oral, written, graphic) and may include any of the following: manufacturer’s specifications, recommendations or technical data sheets; material specifications; specifications from a specialist source such as an architect, designer, engineer or a supervisor; site or work-specific requirements. 2 Practical elements of this unit standard may be assessed on the basis of evidence of demonstrated performance in the workplace or in simulated work situations designed to draw upon similar performance to that required in a workplace. 3 Legislation and publications relevant to this unit standard include: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Building Act 2004; and Building (Forms) Regulations 2004; Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation SSB Code 101562 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 20744 version 3 Page 2 of 4 Construction Contracts Act 2002; Employment Relations Act 2000; Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Compensation Act 2001; Resource Management Act 1991; New Zealand Building Code; NZS 4202:1995 Standard method of measurement of building works, available from Standards NZ (http://www.standards.co.nz). Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe the types, and requirements, of building contracts and standard conditions of contracts and sub-contract agreements used in construction works. Evidence requirements 1.1 The legal obligations of a contract are described in terms of the contract requirements. 1.2 General and specific requirements of conditions of contracts and sub-contract agreements are described in terms of impact on site activities. 1.3 The roles and responsibilities of the parties are identified and explained in terms of their obligations to comply with the requirements of contract and sub-contract documentation. Range 1.4 client, contractor, designer, engineer, sub-contractors, material suppliers, architect, quantity surveyor, project manager, consultants. The avenues of conflict resolution relating to disputes are described in accordance with contract documentation and the Construction Contracts Act 2002. Range disputes related to securing of payments and general building disputes involving mediation or arbitration. Outcome 2 Describe the tendering process and identify and describe the associated documentation for construction work. Evidence requirements 2.1 The documentation associated with tendering is identified and described in terms of purpose. 2.2 Tendering is described in terms of process. Evidence requirements 3.1 The explanation includes how the preparation of the schedule conforms to NZS 4202:1995. 3.2 The explanation includes how the schedule of quantities is used for tendering and financial administration of contracts. 3.3 Information contained in the schedule of quantities is explained in terms of how it complies with NZS 4202:1995. Outcome 4 Interpret a selected section of a schedule of quantities for contractors’ work from a given construction project. Evidence requirements 4.1 The schedule of quantities for a selected section of contractors’ work is interpreted from the plans and specifications. Range one schedule relevant to the candidate’s trade. Outcome 5 Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of monitoring construction site operations performance against the requirements of the contract programme. Evidence requirements 5.1 Monitoring process is described in accordance with contract documents and organisational procedure. 5.2 Recording and reporting is described in accordance with contract documents and organisational procedure.
