People credited with this unit standard are able to weigh, pack and label retail produce for sale. Classification Retail, Distribution, and Sales > Retail Produce Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definition Organisational procedures – instructions to staff on policies and procedures which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace. 2 Candidates undertaking assessment against this unit standard are expected to comply with the – Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986, Food Act 1981, Food Hygiene Regulations 1974, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, Weights and Measures Act 1987. 3 Evidence is required for the weighing, packing and labelling of three different types of retail produce. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Weigh retail produce for sale. Evidence requirements 1.1 Weighing area and equipment is prepared in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 1.2 preparation includes but is not limited to – accuracy verified, cleanliness, tared for packaging. Equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and organisational procedures. Outcome 2 Pack and label retail produce for sale. Evidence requirements 2.1 Packaging is selected in accordance with organisational procedures. Range selection includes but is not limited to – clean, matches produce. 2.2 Pricing, coding and labelling equipment is set up, cleaned, and operated in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.3 Retail produce is packaged to ensure quality in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.4 Label is attached in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 2.5 Pre-dated packs are checked for weight loss and corrections made in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 2.6 measures may include but are not limited to – cleaning, handling, stacking, shelf life, preventing damage, preventing infestation, preventing contamination, preventing cross-contamination. Food safety practices are followed when packaging and labelling retail produce in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 2.8 corrections include but are not limited to – change weight on label, repack showing original pack date. Measures to maintain quality of retail produce are applied in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 2.7 attachment includes but is not limited to – information correct for product to which it is attached. food safety practices may include but are not limited to – personal health and hygiene, cleanliness, washing, handling, re-packaging, utensils, use-by date. Measures to maintain personal safety and minimise hazards are applied in accordance with organisational procedures.
