People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of styles and themes of kitchen or bathroom designs; identify and apply colour in kitchen or bathroom designs; and apply styles and themes to kitchen or bathroom designs. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements. Client – refers to the person who has commissioned the design brief. Styles and themes may include but are not limited to – sauna rooms, ethnic or religious rooms. Design brief – refers to the design parameters agreed between the kitchen or bathroom designer and the client. 3 Evidence is required of a minimum of two different kitchen or bathroom designs. Range evidence is required for three of the following regions – New Zealand, America, Europe, Asia, Pacific. Evidence requirements 1.1 Two kitchen or bathroom design themes for each selected region are identified and described in terms of style and influence on kitchen or bathroom planning. 1.2 Materials required for each style identified in evidence requirement 1.1 are identified and described in terms of their impact on kitchen or bathroom design. 1.3 The applicability of each style identified in evidence requirement 1.1 to its environment is analysed in terms of materials, cost, and any legislative requirements. Outcome 2 Identify and apply colour in kitchen or bathroom designs. Evidence requirements 2.1 Colour characteristics are identified in terms of their types. Range 2.2 colour characteristics include but are not limited to – hue, tint, shade, tone, warm, cool, advancing, retreating, colour harmonies, colour classifications. Primary, secondary and tertiary colours are identified and applied to kitchen or bathroom designs in accordance with the design brief. Outcome 3 Apply styles and themes to kitchen or bathroom designs. Evidence requirements 3.1 Developed kitchen or bathroom designs incorporate selected theme and style in accordance with worksite requirements and the design brief. 3.2 Client approval for the developed designs is sought in accordance with worksite requirements.
