This unit standard is for people working in the area of kitchen or
bathroom design and planning.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify and
describe building construction requirements that impact on a
kitchen or bathroom design; apply renovation considerations to
a kitchen or bathroom design; and apply building construction
requirements to a kitchen or bathroom design and seek client
approval.

Definitions
Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality
specifications, legislative requirements.
Client – refers to the person who has commissioned the design brief.
Design brief – refers to the design parameters agreed between the kitchen or
bathroom designer and the client.

Evidence is required of a completed kitchen or bathroom design.

Outcome 1
Identify and describe building construction requirements that impact on a kitchen or
bathroom design.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Components of a building framework that impact on a kitchen or bathroom
design are identified and described in accordance with the references.
Range
1.2
Floor construction types are identified and described in terms of their impact on
a kitchen or bathroom design.

architrave, beading, cornice and/or scotia, dado, fascia, moulding,
pelmet, bulkhead, skirting, soffit, stop moulding, strike and face
plate, insulation, tread and/or going, rise and/or riser, stringer, stair
nose, stud dwang, bracing;
evidence of three is required.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Renovation considerations are incorporated into the kitchen or bathroom design
in accordance with worksite requirements and the design brief.
renovation considerations may include but are not limited to –
removing partition walls, adding or moving doors, adding or
moving windows, shifting plumbing or electrical systems, structural
requirements, building consent requirements;
evidence of two is required.

Building construction requirements are incorporated into the kitchen or
bathroom design in accordance with worksite requirements and the design brief.
