This unit standard is for people working in the area of kitchen or bathroom design.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of ergonomic requirements and the impact on a kitchen or bathroom design, and apply ergonomic requirements to a kitchen or bathroom design and seek client approval.

3 Definitions
Worksite requirements
– refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and pro cedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements.
Client – refers to the person who has commissioned the design brief.
Design brief – refers to the design parameters agreed between the kitchen or bathroom designer and the client.
4 Evidence is required of a completed kitchen or bathroom design.


Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of ergonomic requirements and the impact on a kitchen or bathroom design.
Evidence requirements
1.1 The importance of ergonomic requirements is identified and described in terms of the impact on a kitchen or bathroom design and on any client requirements.
1.2 The important measurements for vertical heights for major kitchen or bathroom components are identified and their impact on a kitchen or bathroom design is described.
Range evidence of vertical heights for six major kitchen or bathroom components is required.
1.3 Advantages and disadvantages of different types of storage systems are identified and compared in terms of their impact on a kitchen or bathroom design.
Range
Outcome 2 evidence of two different types is required.
Apply the impact of ergonomic requirements to a kitchen or bathroom design and seek client approval.
Evidence requirements
2.1 Ergonomic requirements are incorporated into the kitchen or bathroom design in accordance with worksite requirements and the design brief.
Range ergonomic requirements may include but are not limited to – food flow sequence; work triangle, main appliance, landing spaces and storage requirements; storage systems; vertical heights for major kitchen or bathroom components; access.
2.2 Client approval for ergonomic requirements is sought in accordance with worksite requirements.
