Vagahau Niue refers to the authentic language of Niue. This unit standard involves
written Vagahau Niue;
Contexts refer to communicative situations, topics and settings appropriate to written
Vagahau Niue;
Predictable refers to topics and settings that are within the learner’s likely personal
experience;
Basic refers to simple sentences, simple compound sentences and limited
vocabulary;
Texts refer to coherent and identifiable pieces of spoken or written communication;
for example, messages, instructions, announcements, and dialogues that deal with
everyday situations;
Main points refer to the objective, intention or the most important ideas in written
texts;
Specific details refer to the smaller parts that support and expand on the main points.

Required resources for this unit standard are written extracts from two texts, each
extract at least 200 words in length. The language of the texts is to be Vagahau
Niue.

Questions and responses for this unit standard, written or spoken, are to be in
English or Vagahau Niue.

Outcomes one and two are to be assessed twice (once for each text). These
assessments may be on two separate occasions.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.
