Designed to meet the trade entry needs of
automotive technicians in the chassis area, with
special emphasis on Toyota vehicles for Toyota
technicians. This course is required for both a
Toyota Specialist certificate and an Associate in
Science degree in auto technology.

automotive brake, suspension, wheel and alignment

The Automotive Technology curriculum is
designed to prepare students for employment as
apprentice auto mechanics or to allow students
to continue toward a Baccalaureate degree in
other advanced schools of technology in
preparation for future management and teaching
careers in the automotive industry.
The College of Alameda ATECH program is
certified by the National Institute for Automotive
Service Excellence (ASE), and was recognized
as the “Best Auto Mechanics Training Program”
in California in 1999 and again in 2002 by the
Industry Planning Council of the Motor Vehicle
Manufacturers Association. College of Alameda
is also part of the Toyota T-TEN program
(Toyota Technical Education Network), providing
students enrolled in the Toyota Specialist
program with specialized Toyota training and
affording them special opportunities towards job
placement in local Toyota dealerships.

A new offering to the art department which will
enhance overall enrollment by recruiting students
from community-based organizations, as well as
attracting Berkeley City College students with
interest in monumental painting and community
organizing. The class will emphasize the
collaboration between a community-based site and
the student artists. It will focus on the mural within
the context of the society that inspires it. It will
enhance existing interest in painting and promote
dialogue about the form among students and faculty.
It will fit comfortably with existing offerings such as
Drawing and Composition, Painting, Art History, and
"Themes, Trends and Traditions in World Art". It
has successfully been offered as ART 48VN.

SJDCC EM microscopy program. Merritt has
fluorescence scopes, they don’t; they have EM
scopes, Merritt doesn’t. Their students will take this
intensive class here, and Merritt’s students will take
an EM class at SJDCC, thus significantly increasing
the marketability of both groups. The college plans
to offer this as a short term class this semester.

JUSTIFICATION:
Given the issue around water shortages and
sustainability there has been an increased
awareness of Permaculture practices. This has led
to a proliferation of very well attended classes with
students wanting a certificate in this area of
expertise.
