Operate a wiredrawing line

Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of
the construction of a wiredrawing line; perform wiredrawing operations; and
start up and shut down a wiredrawing line and associated equipment that
have been pre-set. This unit standard is designed to enable entry level
people to perform basic process operations in a wiredrawing operation.

Performance criteria
1.1
Wiredrawing machine components are identified using enterprise equipment.

The wiredrawing process is described in terms of the principal purpose of the
equipment on the line, and the sequence of operation, using enterprise

2.1
The hazards associated with wiredrawing and their sources are identified, and
precautions are taken in accordance with enterprise procedure.

occupational overuse syndrome;
sources include – slippery floors.
Emergency stopping of the wiredrawing line and ancillary equipment is
demonstrated in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Performance criteria
3.1
Raw material for wiredrawing is verified against job specification and loaded in
accordance with enterprise procedure.
3.2
Work area is cleared and cleaned to ensure safe operating conditions in
accordance with enterprise requirements.
Range
work area may include – floors, stairs, platforms, machine
surfaces, ledges, intake and output areas, hand tools.
3.3
Wiredrawing machinery, ancillary equipment, and downstream equipment startup is performed in accordance with enterprise procedure.
3.4
Wiredrawing machinery, ancillary equipment, and downstream equipment shutdown is performed in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
