This unit standard applies to transporting agrichemicals as ‘tools-of-trade’ in terms of
Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005.

Personal protective equipment, appropriate to job requirements, is to be selected and
used in accordance with company requirements, NZS 8409, and manufacturer’s
instructions.

Definitions
Agrichemical – any substance, whether inorganic or organic, man-made or naturally
occurring, modified or in its original state, that is used in any agriculture, horticulture,
or related activity to eradicate, modify, or control flora or fauna.
Company requirements refer to all policies, procedures, and methodologies the
candidate’s organisation has in place including but not limited to those relating to
health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.
Manufacturer’s instructions may include specifications, installation, handling, use,
and maintenance instructions and safety data sheets.

Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the transportation of diluted agrichemicals by road.
Performance criteria
1.1
Legislation is identified and described in terms of its requirements for the
transportation of diluted agrichemicals by road.

1.2
General requirements for the transportation of diluted agrichemicals by road are

Element 2
Drive agrichemical application equipment carrying diluted agrichemicals on and off the
road.
Performance criteria
2.1
Valves, hatches, and other moving parts are closed and secured after loading,
and are checked for leaks.
2.2
Diluted agrichemicals are carried in accordance with legal and company
requirements, with no harm to people, contamination, or damage to the
environment, equipment, or facilities.
2.3
Documentation is carried in accordance with NZS 8409.
2.4
Vehicle is placarded with the appropriate HAZCHEM signage in accordance
with NZS 8409.
2.5
Vehicle is checked to ensure that emergency and protective equipment is
installed in accordance with NZS 8409.
Element 3
Develop an emergency procedure guide for the transportation of diluted agrichemicals.
Performance criteria
3.1
Emergency procedure guide is produced which sets out actions to be taken in
the event of injury, poisoning, spill, or fire in accordance with NZS 8409 and
company requirements.
3.2
Emergency procedure guide is displayed and located in accordance with NZS
8409.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
