New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 17232 version 3 Page 2 of 3 3 Definitions Agrichemical – any substance, whether inorganic or organic, man-made or naturally occurring, modified or in its original state, that is used in any agriculture, horticulture, or related activity to eradicate, modify, or control flora or fauna. Company requirements refer to all policies, procedures, and methodologies the candidate’s organisation has in place including but not limited to those relating to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Demonstrate knowledge of calibrations for agrichemicals. Performance criteria 1.1 The general formula for application rates is identified and its key factors are described in accordance with NZS 8409. 1.2 The formula for determining forward speed is described in accordance with NZS 8409. 1.3 The formula for determining volume rate is identified and methods for measuring output are described in accordance with NZS 8409. 1.4 Requirements for calibration checks are described in accordance with NZS 8409. Element 2 Determine agrichemical application rates. Range at least two different chemicals; at least one of – motorised knapsack mist blower, boom or band sprayer, handgun. Performance criteria 2.1 The width of the application is determined in accordance with NZS 8409. 2.2 The forward speed is determined and a speed test is completed in accordance with NZS 8409. 2.3 Gear, throttle, and pressure settings are recorded in accordance with company requirements. 2.4 The amount of chemical required per tank load is calculated in accordance with NZS 8409. Range includes recalculation following a change of at least one variable. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 17232 version 3 Page 3 of 3 Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
