Memo To: José Ortiz, Ed.D. Chancellor From: District Education Committee Date: October 18, 2013 Re: Seeking Research Consultants for Accreditation Purposes Accreditation was one of the agenda items at the October 2013 District Education Committee meeting. The focus was the Institutional Self-Evaluation of Educational Quality and Institutional Effectiveness which each college must write and submit to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges by January 2015. During the discussion of the various requirements of an Institutional Self-Evaluation, it was readily acknowledged that there is a significant amount of research data that is required to be provided in the Institutional Self-Evaluation. Yet as we know, several years ago the colleges cut their Researcher positions as a method of dealing with the severe budget cuts from the State. Given the lack of college Researchers and given the amount of research data needed in the Institutional Self-Evaluation which data must be specific to each college, the District Education Committee is requesting that the district fund Research Consultants to be hired by District Educational Services to work under the supervision of the District Institutional Research Office to provide service to the four colleges as requested. Clearly this is a time-limited need since the request is for research assistance for the Institutional Self-Evaluations. The District Education Committee looks forward to hearing from you.
