It recognises the ability to apply on-job skills while working with a degree of autonomy within defined areas of responsibility. The qualification is structured with a generic compulsory section, an occupationally-based elective section, and strands for key occupational groups to provide flexibility in subject choice relative to occupational specialisation. The two optional strands in product safety and performance improvement are intended to provide added career development options. This qualification is in part modelled on the Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate II in Food Processing. Mutual recognition arrangements have been made between the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation and the National Food Industry Training Council (Australia). Candidates completing this qualification may progress to the National Certificate in Dairy Manufacturing (Process Skills) (Level 4) with optional strands in Product Safety, and People Skills [Ref: 1044]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award.
