Explanatory notes 1 Local iwi or hapū curriculum aims and objectives take precedence with this unit standard. 2 The context of the inquiries required should begin with the local rohe or takiwā. Where local rohe are also occupied by a number of other iwi or hapū, the tangata whenua or mana whenua view will take precedence. Other iwi or hapū views should be encouraged in order to enrich and enhance understanding of key Māori kaupapa, tikanga and take. 3 Definitions of local Māori words and concepts in the local dialect must be verified by the local iwi and or hapū concerned. 4 Resource support includes but is not limited to the following: Kelly, L, Tainui, (Christchurch, NZ: Capper Press, 1980). Range events may include but are not limited to - trade; wars; Christianity; loss of land. 1.3 The description details key events and attitudes in interactions between the hapū or iwi and Pākehā. 1.4 The description includes effects on the social, political, cultural, economic and education or aspirations of the iwi or hapū. Outcome 2 Describe the historical events up until the end of the Second World War. Evidence requirements 2.1 The description presents events in a chronological manner. 2.2 The description compares and contrasts key events and the effects on the hapū or iwi with the effects of similar or same events for all Māori or other hapū or iwi. Range 2.3 events may include - war; raupatu; deaths and injury due to war or disease; land loss; lifestyle changes. The description includes details of the effects of legislation on the iwi or hapū. Outcome 3 Describe the historical events from the end of the Second World War up until the present day. Evidence requirements 3.1 The description presents events in a chronological manner. 3.2 The description compares and contrasts key events and the effects on the hapū or iwi with the effects of similar or same events for all Māori or other hapū or iwi.
