Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: assess
political, economic, and cultural trends; monitor and evaluate new
processes and technologies; monitor the competitive
environment and assess opportunities; identify, research, and
evaluate opportunities for business development; and assess
impacts of options on current business operations, and identify
required changes to operational methods and structures to
achieve business development.

development options are determined, and impacts are assessed in terms of
viability of current and proposed operations.
5.2
Impacts of changes on financial resources for business development options are
assessed in terms of financial capacity of the enterprise to fund growth and
maintain viability.
5.3
Required changes to the business structure are determined for business
development options, and impacts are assessed in terms of compatibility,
appropriateness, and effectiveness of structural changes for the business
enterprise.
5.4
Impacts of operational, technical, and structural changes on people involved in the
enterprise are assessed in relation to business development options.
5.5
Impacts of operational, technical, and structural changes on existing customer
base are assessed in relation to business development options.
5.6
Required changes to customer services are identified, and are evaluated in
relation to business development options.
5.7
Required changes to business operations to achieve business development are
determined, and impacts of implementing changes are reviewed and evaluated in
relation to the benefits and viability of business development.

before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
