Definition
Worksite documentation refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
(including the application of legislation to worksite situations), which are formally
documented, and are available for reference at the worksite. Examples are standard
operating procedures, specifications, manuals, and manufacturer's information.

The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a
All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed
the code) for personal, product and worksite health and safety, and must meet
the obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their
subsequent amendments.
b
All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This
includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities,
events, and decisions.
c
All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must
be in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing and
method.

Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the operating principles of debarkers.
Performance criteria
1.1
Types and role of debarkers in the log conversion process are described.
1.2
Operating parameters and capability of debarkers used on the site are identified
and described.

1.3
Operating components of debarkers are identified.
Range
1.4

Element 2
Operate a debarker.
Performance criteria
2.1
Hazards associated with operating a debarker are identified and actions to be
taken to isolate, minimise or eliminate the hazard are described in accordance
with worksite documentation.
Range
2.2

Safe work practices associated with operating a debarker are identified and
used in accordance with legislative requirements and worksite documentation.

lock-outs, emergency stops, machine guarding, wearing of

Debarker is started, operated and shut down in accordance with manufacturer’s
specifications and worksite documentation.

Housekeeping procedures are carried out in accordance with worksite
documentation.
2.5
Production rate is maintained in accordance with worksite production and
quality requirements.
2.6
Residue is disposed of in accordance with legislative requirements and worksite
documentation.
Element 3
Monitor the performance of a debarker.
Performance criteria
3.1
Impact of poor debarking on downstream operations, and product output and
quality is described in accordance with worksite documentation.
3.2
Impact of species on debarker performance and output quality is described in
accordance with worksite documentation.
3.3
Amount of bark remaining on peeled logs is assessed against worksite
documentation, and logs are redirected for further processing if necessary.
3.4
Equipment faults and malfunctions are identified, and corrective action is taken
in accordance with worksite documentation.

3.5
Operating faults that affect debarker output and quality are identified, and
corrective action taken in accordance with worksite documentation.
3.6
Preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule for the debarker is explained
and actioned in accordance with worksite documentation.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
