Classification Tourism > Travel Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Computer reservation system refers to any computer system used in the travel industry to make reservations. For example – a global distribution system (GDS), a suppliers’ website, a wholesale travel system (Calypso). Travel industry workplace policies and procedures refer to documented instructions about workplace expectations, these must include but are not limited to – customer service delivery, personal presentation, legislation, organisational structure, business objectives. Queues refer to an automated response from a supplier which relates to a reservation and requires a mandatory action. For example – confirmation of a request, confirmation of a waitlist, schedule changes. Components refer to the individual parts of the overall package and may include but are not limited to – accommodation, transfers, rental cars, cruises, rail and/or coach journeys, sightseeing. Suppliers, in the context of this unit standard, may include wholesalers and/or direct suppliers. Documents refer to tickets, vouchers, passes and itineraries, which may be in either electronic and/or manual form, and must be in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. 2 Competency in this unit standard must be demonstrated using a computer reservation system which has the capability of processing comprehensive travel requirements. A theoretical knowledge of this computerised system is not sufficient to gain competency. Air travel cannot be used for this unit standard, as it is covered by unit standard 25505. Short haul international refers to destinations that are less than eight hours flying time from New Zealand. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Operate a computer reservation system as an information and business tool for short haul ground travel. Evidence requirements 1.1 Computer reservation system is operated in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range 1.2 may include but is not limited to – log-on, schedules and availability displays, queues, pricing and pricing options, log-off; evidence relating to four different tasks is required. Reference information is provided to meet the requests of customers in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range reference information may include but is not limited to – timetable information, accommodation services and facilities, onboard services and facilities, travel information, general information; evidence is required for four different types of reference information. Outcome 2 Complete short haul ground travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Range evidence is required for three different reservations, each containing a minimum of three components; at least one reservation must include an adult, child and/or infant. Evidence requirements 2.1 Passenger name records (PNRs) are created which contain correct information in all of the mandatory fields. 2.2 Special requests are processed in accordance with customer and supplier requirements. Range ServiceIQ SSB Code 9068 may include but are not limited to – frequent traveller details, loyalty programme details, specific vehicle type, passenger status (VIP, CIP), children and infants’ ages, room type; evidence is required for a minimum of one special request per reservation. Outcome 3 Amend and cancel short haul ground travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Evidence requirements 3.1 Reservations are amended in accordance with customer requirements. Range 3.2 evidence is required for two different amendments. Reservations are cancelled in accordance with customer requirements. Outcome 4 Cost and process short haul ground travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Range evidence is required for three different reservations, each containing a minimum of three components; at least one reservation must include an adult, child and/or infant. Evidence requirements 4.1 Travel arrangements are costed in accordance with customer requirements, travel industry workplace policies and procedures, and suppliers’ requirements. 4.2 Travel arrangements are processed in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures, and suppliers’ requirements. Range documents are requested and/or issued. Replacement information This unit standard, unit standard 25505, and unit standard 26469 have been replaced by unit standard 28129. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
