Classification Tourism > Travel Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Computer reservation system refers to any computer system used in the travel industry to make reservations. For example – a global distribution system (GDS), an airline website, a wholesale travel system (Calypso). Travel industry workplace policies and procedures refer to documented instructions about workplace expectations, these must include but are not limited to – customer service delivery, personal presentation, legislation, organisational structure, business objectives. Queues refer to an automated response from a supplier which relates to a reservation and requires a mandatory action. For example – confirmation of a request, confirmation of an airline waitlist, schedule changes. Multi-sector reservations refer to two or more flight reservations, which may include return flights. For example – Auckland/Wellington/Auckland. Suppliers, in the context of this unit standard, may include wholesalers and/or direct suppliers. 2 Competency in this unit standard must be demonstrated using a computer reservation system which has the capability of processing comprehensive travel requirements. A theoretical knowledge of this computerised system is not sufficient to gain competency. 3 For the purpose of this unit standard short haul air travel refers to domestic, short haul international, and point to point long haul international. Short haul international refers to destinations that are less than eight hours flying time from New Zealand. Point to point long haul international refers to destinations that are more than eight hours flying time from New Zealand on direct air services only. Evidence requirements 1.1 Computer reservation system is operated in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range 1.2 may include but is not limited to – log-on, encoding, decoding, schedules and availability displays, queues, log-off; evidence relating to four different tasks is required. Reference information is provided to meet the requests of customers in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range reference information may include but is not limited to – flight service information, displaying local time, travel information, general information, minimum connecting time; evidence is required for four different types of reference information. Outcome 2 Complete short haul air travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Range evidence is required for three different multi-sector reservations; at least one reservation must include an adult, child and/or infant. Evidence requirements 2.1 Passenger name records (PNRs) are created which contain correct information in all of the mandatory fields. 2.2 Special requests are processed in accordance with customer and airline requirements. Range 2.3 may include but are not limited to – frequent traveller details, seat requests, special meals, passenger status (VIP, CIP), children and infants’ ages, total complete party (TCP); evidence is required for a minimum of one special request per reservation. Reservations are made in accordance with customer and airline requirements. Outcome 3 Amend and cancel short haul air travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Range 3.2 evidence is required for two different amendments. Reservations are cancelled in accordance with customer requirements. Outcome 4 Cost and process short haul air travel arrangements using a computer reservation system. Range evidence is required for three different multi-sector reservations; at least one reservation must include an adult, child and/or infant. Evidence requirements 4.1 Travel arrangements are costed in accordance with customer requirements, travel industry workplace policies and procedures, and suppliers’ requirements. 4.2 Travel arrangements are processed in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures, and suppliers’ requirements. Range e-tickets are requested and/or issued. Replacement information This unit standard, unit standard 25506, and unit standard 26469 have been replaced by unit standard 28129. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
