purpose:
This unit standard is for bus and coach operators who
provide coach services to inbound tour operators.
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
demonstrate knowledge of inbound tourism requirements;
explain inbound tour operators’ requirements for coach
standards; describe requirements for tour coach drivers and
tour leaders; describe methods to maintain quality of inbound
coach services; and quote for an inbound tour.

A centrally established and directed national moderation
system has been set up by the NZ Motor Industry Training

Demonstrate knowledge of inbound tourism requirements.

The description includes the requirements of tourists from different international
markets.
Range:
international markets include but are not limited to – Japanese,
American, German, Korean, British, Australian;
tourist requirements include but are not limited to – coach type
and size, travelling times, accommodation, refreshments, tour
leaders, itineraries.

Explain inbound tour operators’ requirements for coach standards.

2.1
The explanation includes the Bus and Coach Association’s Star Grading
System for coaches.
2.2
The explanation includes requirements for seats, equipment, toilets, doors,
wheelchair access, age of coach, and courier seat.
Range:
3 star, 4 star, 5 star coaches.

Analysis of tour requirements is consistent with request.

5.2
Selection of vehicle and driver is in accordance with inbound tour operator
requirements or practice.
5.3
Analysis of costs includes vehicle and non-vehicle costs.
Range:
5.4
non-vehicle costs include the impact of driving hours legislation.
Amendments to inbound tour operator’s proposed tour are identified in terms of
changes to itinerary, inclusions, and exclusions.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for providers wishing to
develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and
assessors, and special resource requirements.
