Definitions
Metal roof claddings means prefinished, zincalume and galvanised claddings.
Plant is used as in the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 to mean
appliances, equipment, fittings, furniture, implements, machines, machinery, tools,
vehicles, plus parts, controls, and anything connected.
Site documents refer to any official documentation for the site, and may include
consents, working drawings, plans and specifications, reports, producer statements,
any relevant industry standards, or any other documentation critical to the
construction process.

Work site practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a work site which
set out the standard and required practices of that work site.

For all on site unit standards the practical assessment evidence must be provided in
the context of commercial business construction operations, in the workplace, under
normal workplace conditions.

Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Industry
practice refers to the ability to work unsupervised, demonstrating knowledge and
skills that reflect the productivity, uniformity, finish quality and material economies
currently accepted within industry.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Cut and fix metal roof claddings on site.
Performance criteria
1.1
Type of roof claddings to be used is identified from site documents.
1.2
Materials are identified from site documents, and an order list is prepared in
accordance with work site practice.
1.3
The installation of roof framing members is verified as being in accordance with
site documents.
1.4
Underlay is installed in accordance with site documents and manufacturer’s
instructions.
1.5
Metal roof claddings are cut, and fixed in accordance with site documents and
manufacturer’s instructions.
1.6
Accessories are cut and fixed to provide a weather tight finish in accordance
with site documents and manufacturer’s instructions.

three of – ridging, hip caps, barge covers, valley gutters, apron
flashings.

Element 2
Verify the installation of roof claddings by others on site.
Performance criteria
2.1
Battens, purlins and underlay are verified as installed in accordance with site
documents.
2.2
Roofing material and accessories are verified as installed in accordance with
site documents and manufacturer’s instructions.
2.3
Flashings and trim as detailed, are verified as installed in accordance with site
documents.
Element 3
Complete work operations on site.
Performance criteria
3.1
All operations are safely completed; workplace, tools, plant and equipment are
cleaned; and tools, plant and equipment are stored in accordance with work site
practice.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
