All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in
accordance with company procedures.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented

product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required
under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management
requirements. These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions.
Definitions
Job requirements – requirements of the job that determine how components are
attached or installed.
Workplace practice – standard practice that a workplace uses to determine how a
component is installed. Manufactured products that have not been installed before
may not fit into a workplace practice category.
Manufacturer specifications – requirements specified by manufacturers of the motor
and ancillary components. Manufacturer specifications must be followed in all
instances to ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty, safe operation, and
operation that meets manufacturer performance claims.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Confirm installation plan for an outboard motor.
Performance criteria
1.1
Planned installation is confirmed as compatible with vessel in terms of space,
horsepower, and strength of the vessel.
Element 2
Select outboard motor and ancillary components.
Performance criteria
2.1
Motor is selected in accordance with transom height and propeller type.
2.2
Motor ancillary components are selected in accordance with job requirements.
Element 3
Install ancillary components.
Range
all installation processes must comply with component manufacturer
specifications.
Performance criteria
3.1
Dashboard gauges are installed in accordance with job requirements and
manufacturer specifications.
3.2
Cable conduit/s and/or tubing are installed in accordance with job requirements
and manufacturer specifications.

3.3
Steering wheel and control system are installed according to workplace practice
and manufacturer specifications.
3.4
Throttle and gearshift controls are installed according to workplace practice and
manufacturer specifications.
3.5
Electrical wiring loom is installed according to workplace practice.

Battery box, tie down, and battery switch are installed according to workplace
practice.
Element 4
Install motor and complete installation.
Range
all installation processes must comply with component manufacturer
specifications.
Performance criteria
4.1
Outboard bolt attachment holes are drilled according to template.
4.2
Outboard is installed according to job requirements.
4.3
Control cables are terminated and/or connected according to job requirements.
4.4
Outboard electrical loom is connected according to job requirements.
4.5
Installation is checked and pre-run checks completed in accordance with job
requirements.
4.6
Engine is test run and checked in accordance with job requirements and
manufacturers specifications.
4.7
Instruments are calibrated in accordance with specifications.
4.8
Pre-delivery checks are carried out in accordance with work practice.
Range
may include – water test, handling, rev range, propeller check.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
