Graduates will work under close supervision, and meet all legal requirements to work in aged care services ensuring the mana, mauri and wairua of kuia and koroua is strengthened. Whānau, hapū and hāpori Māori will benefit from graduates who work in accordance with tikanga and kawa. Graduate profile Graduates will be able to apply the following essential skills and relevant processes: Whanaungatanga (20 credits) Develop communication skills to foster whanaungatanga and engage whanau. Use appropriate language when engaging with whanau, hapū, iwi and hapori. Use basic reo Māori appropriately when engaging with whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori. Outcome Statement Kaitiakitanga: (20 credits) Develop and facilitate suitable programmes to meet required needs of kuia and koroua Liaise and coordinate a range of services for the well-being of kuia and koroua. Recognise and assist kuia, koroua and their whānau with referral processes on personal health, environment safety and healthcare requirements. Understand and demonstrate techniques for safer handling and mobility of kuia and koroua. Tino Rangatiratanga (8 credits) Accurately carry out record keeping. Whānau Ora (12 credits) Explain the historical context of the development of Whānau Ora as a Government Policy for kuia and koroua Explain how te Tiriti o Waitangi supports the concept of Whānau Ora pertaining to kuia koroua context Understand ethical boundaries and professional standards within a kuia koroua context Education pathway This qualification provides a pathway for those seeking to improve or further develop their skills and knowledge in tiaki kuia, koroua.
