This qualification is designed in order that candidates can meet the regulatory requirements of Section 158 of the Gambling Act 2003. The qualification comprises compulsory standards that recognise the skills and knowledge required in generic business management. The elective provides an opportunity for candidates to acquire management skills and knowledge as they apply to the specifics of casino gaming operations. The balance allows candidates to gain credits from any domain in the Business Operations and Development and Marketing subfields, and/or from other standards in the Casino Gaming domain, at level 4 or above. This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge contained in the National Certificate in Casino Gaming (Level 3) [Ref: 0376] and the National Certificate in Casino Gaming (Level 4) with strands in Table Gaming, and Gaming Machines [Ref: 0377]. Special Notes Section 176 of the Gambling Act 2003 stipulates that the content, format, and duration of any casino gaming training course must be approved by the Secretary for Internal Affairs. Section 158 of the Gambling Act 2003 requires that all persons must hold a Certificate of Approval if they are employed in a casino in any capacity relating to the following: conducting approved games counting money or chips derived from or used in gambling moving money or chips derived from or used in gambling buying or redeeming chips operating, maintaining, constructing, or repairing gambling equipment supervising or managing any of the above activities. To qualify to work in a casino, and in casino gaming, a person must meet the minimum age requirement for entry into a casino, and must also hold a Certificate of Approval issued by the Department of Internal Affairs. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). The strands were removed, as a qualification in Casino Inspection and Monitoring was no longer required by the Department of Internal Affairs. The Casino Gaming Management strand, therefore, was integrated into the core of the qualification. Title was amended to include the descriptor Management. A balance set was added to the qualification Standards 15714-15716, which made up the Casino Inspection and Monitoring strand, were removed from the qualification, but may be used to satisfy the requirements of Elective 2. Expiring standard 7447 was substituted with standard 11646, its recommended alternative, in the compulsory section. Standards 15701, 15704-15708 and 15713 were moved from the core compulsory to Elective 1. Standard 2931 was moved to the compulsory section, and standards 15702, 15703, 15709-157012 were moved to Elective 1, from the Casino Gaming Management strand. The lapsing subfield Management was replaced in the qualification by Business Operations and Development and was added to Elective 2, along with the Casino Gaming domain. The Marketing subfield was moved from the core elective to Elective 2. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. There are no candidates currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 2 of this qualification. As a result of this, there are no transition implications. All new candidates will be enrolled in programmes leading to the new qualification. All versions of this qualification will be recognised by ServiceIQ. This qualification contains a standard that is used as a substitute for an earlier standard. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the substitute standard – see table below. Credit for Exempt from 7447 11646 This qualification contains a classification that is used as substitutes for an earlier classification. For the purposes of version 3 of this qualification, people who have gained credit for standards in the lapsed classification may continue to use those credits to meet the qualification requirements of Elective 2.
