Purpose
The National Certificate in Retail (Loss Prevention) (Level 2) [Ref: 1511] is an entry level
qualification for people who are working or intending to work in loss prevention within the
retail and distribution industries. This qualification is designed for completion in the
workplace.
People awarded this qualification are able to demonstrate basic practical skills in loss
prevention in the retail and distribution sectors. The compulsory section contains
standards that will allow people to demonstrate skills and knowledge specific to loss
prevention, in particular, theft and fraud, process loss, policies and procedures on loss
prevention, recognition of suspicious behaviour by customers and the use of security
systems to prevent losses.
The elective section allows flexibility and choice in tailoring the qualification to different
industry needs. This caters for the needs of small, medium and large enterprises
prevalent in retail and distribution industries.
This qualification may lead to the National Certificate in Retail and Distribution (Loss
Prevention) (Level 3) [Ref: 1512] and may also lead to the National Certificate in Retail
(Level 4) [Ref: 0995].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
