Purpose
The National Diploma in Drilling – Non-hydrocarbon (Driller Supervisor) (Level 5)
recognises the skills of an experienced driller supervisor in non-hydrocarbon drilling at an
onshore drilling operation. The holder of this qualification is able to perform tasks involving
a high level of autonomy and apply significant judgement in planning and selecting
materials, roles, and techniques for themselves and others.
A core component of essential skills related to planning drilling, and managing equipment
and maintenance; financial resources and budgets; and maintaining effective team/crew
operations in a non-hydrocarbon drilling environment is included in this qualification. A
small elective that recognises a variety of skill sets is required due to the diversity of
drilling environments.
This qualification includes Australian competency standards that are part of the DRT03
Drilling Training Package – Certificate 1V in Drilling. These standards have been
endorsed by the New Zealand Extractive Industries Training Organisation.
This qualification is part of a pathway, which commences with the National Certificate in
Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller’s Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast
Hole/Mineral Production and Development [Ref: 1331], and continues with the National
Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in
Environmental/Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref: 1332], and the National Certificate in
Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Senior Driller) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Water Well
[Ref: 1333], and culminates in this qualification.
Special Notes
Prerequisite: National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Senior Driller) (Level 4)
[Ref: 1333], or demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge.

Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
