The holder of the qualification is able to perform tasks involving a wide range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine and is responsible for the quality and quantity of output of others. A core component of essential skills required by a Senior Driller relating to managing mobilisation of equipment and materials, managing on site operations, and managing non routine, complex technical situations in a non-hydrocarbon drilling environment is included in this qualification. A small elective that recognises a variety of skill sets is required due to the diversity of drilling environments. The standards in the optional strand relate to methods of drilling that are specific to water wells. This qualification includes Australian competency standards that are part of the DRT03 Drilling Training Package – Certificate 111 in Drilling. These standards have been endorsed by the New Zealand Extractive Industries Training Organisation. This qualification is part of a pathway, which begins with the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development [Ref: 1331], and continues with the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in Environmental/ Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref: 1332], culminating in the National Diploma in Drilling Non-hydrocarbon (Driller Supervisor) (Level 5) [Ref: 1334]. Special Notes Prerequisite: National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) [Ref: 1332], or demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same Id may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
