Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to trial and
select rendering media and techniques for graphics
presentation; and prepare for, and produce, final rendered
graphics.

Explanatory notes
1
This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning
outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning
Media Wellington, 1995).

The task referred to in this unit standard, needs to include rendering techniques of
concepts, refinements and details for design discussion, and the rendering of final
design presentations and layouts for printing in a variety of subjects.

Evidence is required for three different techniques. Examples of techniques are: the
use of blending; watercolour wash; pen drawing; airbrushing; water soluble or spirit
marker techniques; overlays; photocopying; montage.

Examples of media are: pastels, marker and ink pens, coloured and graphite pencils,
ink, watercolour, gouache, crayon, white and coloured paper, tracing, watercolour
and bleedproof paper.

Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 provides reference, where needed, for
this unit standard.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Trialling of rendering media and techniques produces a range of presentations
from which a selection for the task can be made.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Selection of rendering tools enables the graphics to be presented.
2.2
Safe working practices are demonstrated in accordance with the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992.
2.3
Use of media and techniques communicates meaning in the final rendered
graphics.
2.4
Rendered graphics communicate information to meet the requirements of the
task.
