Classification Social Science Studies > Sociology Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 For the purposes of this unit standard, the substantiated sociological argument may be presented in an essay or in another mode. Modes other than an essay include but are not limited to: seminar, written report, magazine article, audio recording, video recording. 2 The substantiated sociological argument must address a defined question that is either set by the provider or established by agreement between the provider and the assessee. 3 Sociological conventions refer to: acknowledging sources, referencing quotations (including indirect quotations), listing references in alphabetical order by author, use of footnotes, using non-sexist language. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Advance a sustained and convincing sociological argument on a defined question. Evidence requirements 1.1 The sociological argument is sustained by assertions that address the scope of the defined question. 1.2 The convincing sociological argument is advanced through the use of evidence that substantiates the assertions. 1.3 The assertions are developed in terms of a sociological theory or theoretical perspective that validates the argument. 1.4 Sociological conventions are observed to establish the source(s) of the sociological information.
