listed above.

Summary
The unit standards listed above have been reviewed as part of the MQS planned review
cycle, to ensure that the standards continue to meet industry requirements, and to ensure
they are clear, logical and fit for purpose.
The review found that the standards were fit for purpose with the exception of three
standards which have been designated as expiring and will not be replaced. Minor
changes were made to the remaining standards to clarify interpretations. Changes made
to the standards now better reflect the way that the standards are used in industry.
The Whakaruruhau New Māori Music representing the interests of stakeholders was
convened and met on three occasions between October 2010 and April 2011. The
Whakaruruhau endorsed all changes made to the reviewed standards.
Main changes
 The titles of standards 18715, 18720, and 22762 were amended to better reflect the
standards’ content.
 The level of standard 18715 decreased from 4 to 3.
 Purpose statements were amended to more accurately and clearly reflect the content.
 Explanatory notes were updated to better convey assessment parameters, including
clearer definitions, and clarification of the breadth and depth of evidence required to
demonstrate competence.
 Outcome statements, evidence requirements, and range statements were amended to
improve clarity and consistency of assessment.
 Standards 18721, 18724, and 23002, which were no longer fit for purpose and not
required, were designated as expiring and will not be replaced.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2013
