Summary
In July 2010 Careerforce invited ten representatives from the disability sector to form a
sector panel to evaluate the unit standards within the domain Practical and Professional
Skills for Disability Support that were due for review. At a subsequent sector panel
meeting held on 18 August 2010, unit standard 18674 was one of three identified by panel
members as useful components of qualifications for the aged support, health, and
disability sector. The panel reviewed this unit standard and made modifications to reflect
current practice and confirm it as fit for purpose.
In version 2 of this unit standard the previous term disability has been replaced by
impairment to reflect current definitions; and the terms pre-Christian and post-Christian
have been replaced by traditional and contemporary respectively, to reflect current
terminology, and to promote enhanced readability and flow.
The range statements of both outcomes have been expanded to include ‘one holistic
model of hauora’ in order to ensure that candidates are aware of a model when
explaining/describing Māori perceptions; and one evidence requirement has been
removed from Outcome 1. The overall outcome of version 2 of this unit standard,
however, remains the same as for version 1.
