Scholarship – 2007 Design Examples of Candidate Work 1 Outstanding Scholarship This submission is outstanding for its voracity in seeking further options; it takes every opportunity to explore another possibility and always considers the full breadth of design solutions/ outputs. This portfolio appears quiet at first, but is intent in its pursuit of design concepts that exploit a wide range of relevant territory and contexts. It understands its own question and clearly identifies a focus that is both transparent (readable) and complex. This submission offers an excellent sample of an exemplary workbook. It profiles the collaborative relationship between two sites of evidence; portfolio and workbook. There is a strong parallel body of work evident in the workbook that is highly investigative and inventive in approach, providing the conversation/ discussion between works and/or extensions of work located on the boards. Drawing is a key device employed in a number of ways in both the workbook and portfolio. The inclusion of pre-existing texts and found objects as a source/ working surface is a successful underpinning structural mechanism for transporting ideas and concepts in informative directions. Approaches employed are kept open-ended through thorough visual research and knowledge of established practice. This is a critical engagement with a focused and intelligent brief. The repeated regeneration of content is a real strength and allows for a highly sophisticated engagement/ development to occur. Original decision-making is highlighted through the versatility of proposition and the range of potential outputs presented. Ownership is established through consistent interrogation and use of aesthetic and media processes, which widely support and promote the variety of engagement present in this portfolio and workbook. The parallel nature of this submission presents a fluency and understanding that is purposeful and well executed. This is achieved through coherency of intention and commitment from the first works on board one through to the final work on board three. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
