Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:10 p.m.
II.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the April 16th meeting were approved with one abstention.
III.
Announcements
Hedy Carpenter announced that ten students would be participating at the Statewide
Student Research Competition on May 10-11, 2013 at Cal Poly Pomona. She also
reported that ten CSUN students were awarded the Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive
Program (CDIP).
IV.
Informational Item
Deborah Cours discussed the memorandum of agreement with CSUN and Zhongnan
University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China. The collaboration would
provide students in China an MBA foundation preparation program and assist them to
successfully matriculate to CSUN for an accelerated one-year MBA cohort program
offered through self-support. In addition, Cours requested that as part of the one-year
pilot program, GSC permit the Chinese College Test of English (CET), Band 6 in lieu of
the TOEFL/IELTS/Pearson VUE. The GSC approved the request and the MBA
department will report back to the committee after the first cohort has completed the
program.
V.
Program Review Updates
Jared Rappaport attended the Physics and Astronomy program review meeting and
Mary Woodley attended the Political Science program review meeting. Both GSC
members reported that the external reviewers had minor recommendations, but the
comments were overall very positive.

VI.
Discussion Item
Jackie Stallcup reviewed the revised disqualification policy. The GSC and the
associate deans discussed and recommended additional revisions to the policy.
Stallcup will continue to edit the proposal and the GSC will discuss the proposal in
Fall 2013.
VII.
Election of Chair
Merril Simon from the Educational Psychology and Counseling Department was reelected as the GSC Chair for 2013-2014.
