DHS Culture Project Objective: Create a culture guide to describe the culture of Dulles High School. Instructions: 1. Use the following cultural universals to create your project: People – What kinds of groups exist at DHS? Are some groups better than others? How do the groups interact? Education – What do students learn about at DHS? What are the more popular courses? What are the least popular? Folklore – What unwritten rules of behavior are present? What are the customs and traditions? Laws – What are the official rules of DHS? What are the consequences for breaking these rules? Celebrations – What are some of the events and celebrations observed at DHS? Political System – Who governs the students, teachers and staff of DHS? Economic System – What is the “currency” of DHS? What are people working for and what are they earning in exchange for their work? Science and Technology – How do students, teachers and staff use technology at DHS? Sports – What types of formal and recreational sports are at DHS? How important are sports to DHS? Entertainment – How do students, teachers and staff entertain themselves at DHS? How are art, music and literature used…think about this both in classes and outside of classes. 2. You may work with a one partner or alone to complete this project. 3. Your finished project must include narrative descriptions as well as photographs or drawings. 4. You may create a book, PowerPoint, photo story, video, etc. but the following grading criteria will apply to all: Descriptions 50 (5 points each) Illustrations 30 (3 points each) Cover 10 Neatness 10 Total Possible 100 Project is due: September 11, 2015 Major grade rules apply to this project: 1 day late -15 points 2 days late -30 points 3 days late -40 points
