Ferial Masry, a Saudi American Woman political activist speaks on Muslim Women and Social Change in the US Ferial Masry, who was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, became the first Saudi American to run for political office in the United States. In a spectacular 2004 write-in campaign, unprecedented in California, Masry garnered local, national and international attention for her outstanding achievement and her unique background. She is recognized as someone who is trying to break new ground – and break down barriers. She has been an inspiration to people from all backgrounds as she pursues public office in California. Author of the book Running for all the Right Reasons, was the Person of the Week, ABC News and received the Human Rights Award, Ronald Reagan Library (2002). The U.S. State Department called her “SaudiAmerican Woman Champions Democracy” and The Huffington Post in 2010 called her “Surprised Political Legend” adding: “Ferial Masry would be an arrow rushing through the air if she were not a person.
