How Will Gateway be Delivered? • Active Student Learning – Student preparedness is key • Teaching Method – Faculty are coaches not lecturers – Students prepare and present homework – Most assignments require working in teams – Formal and informal oral presentations Objective 1: Learn to Build and Work Effectively in Teams • Work in teams on: – Teams’ Exercises – Lower Division Core Cases – Ethics Cases • Grade will depend upon: – Instructor Evaluation of Case Analysis and Team Exercises – Peer Evaluation by Team Members Objective 2: Written and Oral Communication • Written Assignments – Writing grade on four LDC cases – One or two other written assignments • Oral Presentations (Formal and Informal) – As part of your team’s LDC case presentation – As part of a challenge team for LDC case – Contribution to class via class participation • Individual participation in class exercises, readings, activities Objectives 3 and 4: Understand Cross Disciplinary Nature of Business Problems Review Lower Division Business Core Material • Written and oral work on – LDC cases – Integrates material in strategic thinking, ethics, economics, accounting, business law, and statistics Objective 5: Use Ethical Thinking in Solving Business Problems • Written and oral presentation of ethics cases and ethics material in LDC cases • Individual in-class ethics writing assignment Tips to Succeed in Gateway • Complete all assignments before class • Invest in your team – Remember you are learning how to build an effective team • Plan ahead and budget time for class – Take LDC exams early and get them out of the way • Learn from each other – Take advantage of LDC subject area expertise within your team BUS 302L – Gateway Lab • You must take BUS 302L either: – Prior to taking BUS 302 – OR at the same time you take BUS 302 • You will not be able to enroll in 400level business classes until you pass both BUS 302 and 302L. • Enroll now – all 302L sections are open; there are no class size limits.
