Lesson Plan Teacher: Holly Harrison Date: 3rd 9 Weeks Subject / grade level: Computer Applications and Skills/ 7th Grade Materials: Alice Software, Internet Access, Projector, Computer, Printouts (Tutorials, Storyboard) NC SCOS Essential Standards and Clarifying Objectives: 6207 – Presentation/Multimedia Basics and Presentation Techniques 6.TT.1 - Use technology and other resources for the purpose of accessing, organizing, and sharing information. K.ML.3.2 Select vocal and/or instrumental sounds to accompany readings, stories or dramatizations K.CR.1 Understand global, interdisciplinary, and 21st century connections with music. Define multimedia and list various types of media Identify the types of media used in music video Describe the elements of a storyboard and how it relates to producing a music video in Alice Illustrate/create a storyboard for a music video Compare/contrast Alice programming with other multimedia projects. Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: Provided guided notes as opposed to fill in the blank notes. Have main elements on storyboard and have them add notes/extras in guided practice. Video requirements lessened to 30seconds. ENGAGEMENT Play hangman with students on the board, having them guess the word multimedia. After solving, announce that we will begin a new unit on involving multimedia. By the end of the unit, students will produce a multimedia project for a music video. EXPLORATION/EXPLANATION Show music video for Black Eye Peas, via teacher computer/projector. Explain to students this is an example of multimedia. On notes handout (provided by teacher), have students write what they believe multimedia is or involves. Provide discussion/instruction about multimedia and the various elements/mediums that can be included in it. Play portion of Black Eye Peas video again, having students identify the types of mediums they see present in this. Go over correct answers with students. Introduce students to the concept of storyboarding. Storyboard Template • Scene number • Scene sketch (picture) • Description • Sound • Text Show example on the overhead for the Black Eye Peas video storyboard. Ask students to brainstorm why these are used in multimedia projects? Discuss answers as a class. Conclude with the purpose of the storyboard and how it relates to producing a music video. On notes handout, have students identify the multimedia elements used in Black Eye Peas storyboard. ELABORATION/PRACTICE Discuss with students that they are going to be using a program called Alice to build their music video. Show Black Eye Pea video of Alice World. Compare and contrast this video with the first video. Create practice storyboard cooperatively by reproducing a storyboard for the Alice video. Show on overhead one portion at a time, allowing breaks addition of mediums and instructions. 1 Lesson Plan Teacher visually quick-checks each students upon completion, giving immediate verbal feedback. EVALUATION/CLOSURE Provide students with a list of song choices for their Alice video they will be producing and rubric for assessment. Have students brainstorm ideas/scenes for their music video. Teacher may need to provide copy of lyrics in brainstorming portion. Students should begin creating a one storyboard for a one minute music video.
