Lesson Plan Teacher: Angela Taylor (Hillside New Tech High School) Date July 15, 2008 Course: Honors English I Grade Level: 9th Instructional Presentation Focus & Review Time 10-15 min. Explanation of Activity Review how to create scenes and animate characters. Lesson Objective 5.0 Students will demonstrate an understanding of poetry elements in animated scenes of stanzas from “Upon the Burning of Our House”. Teacher Input 5-10 min. Assign stanzas; discuss objectives. Guided Practice 10-20 min. Read and discuss the poem. Analyze the poetic language used, to develop ideas of how to depict the action. Independent Practice 45-120 min. Students create original scenes “summarizing” the assigned stanza. Closure 5-10 min. Exit Slip closure sheet. Students answer 3-5 questions on wksht. to indicate understanding/additional questions. Adaptations and Modifications Additional time may be given to modify or enhance scenes. Infuse Technology Students will share their scenes with the class, using the SmartBoard to project their work. Infuse Cultural Diversity Students will discuss the cultural aspects of the poem in a Socratic seminar, after reading additional materials (2) about Puritans and their society. Infuse Working w/ Families The Alice scenes will be available for viewing on the school’s Open House Night.
