Longwood University – Professional Educators Council Meeting Minutes November 6, 2009 The Professional Educators Council Meeting was called to order. Those in attendance were Wayne White (Moderator), Chuck Blauvelt for Vonnie Colvin, Gerry Sokol, Rachel Matthews, Alissa Baldwin, Connie Ballard, Nancy Powers, Mark Fink, Katherine Wiesendanger, David Locascio, Kelly Nelson, Mark Fink, Pam Arkin, and Gena Southall. I. Discussion of the Secondary and K-12 program Professional Studies courses– The floor was given to Dr. Locascio. The secondary education programs need to be aware of the state and DOE requirements. State requires a minimum of 15 credits and a maximum of 18 credits of EDUC methods courses. Dr. Locascio needs to know the students from each program who will be taking EDUC 473 each semester. The goal is to get 85% placed in the spring. Reading components need to change to 3 credit hours according to state regulations. EDUC 430 will be phased out (only 2 credits) EDUC 437 is a 3 credit course that meets the state requirements Longwood has articulation agreements with all community colleges – conversations will continue to take place with all Virginia Community Colleges to help facilitate the process. II. Discussion regarding licensure for clinical supervisory personnel Rachel Matthews motioned that the University supervisors have a license in the field, a terminal degree or doctorate, and be approved by the program area. It was seconded by David Locascio and approved by the PEC on a unanimous vote.
