Faculty of Education
Visiting Scholar Funding Scheme 2016
The Faculty of Education’s current Compacts funding strategy focuses, primarily, on obtaining external income. This strategy builds on the
success of previous Compacts funding allocations, which have provided support for research capacity building and for building researchers’
track records. Support for research collaborations, either within or across Faculties or with external partners, is a key focus for 2016.
The goal of the Visiting Scholar Funding Scheme 2016 is to provide an opportunity for academic staff with strong or emerging research track
records to draw on the expertise of an international or Australian scholar in the development of an application for external research funding. This
funding scheme is particularly relevant to competitive ARC / NHMRC / OLT grants (Cat 1) that involve either a Chief Investigator from another
Australian University or a Partner Investigator from an international university. The scheme may also be suitable for international grants, for Cat
2 or 3 grants, or for competitive tenders for Cat 2 or 3 grants. Applications from a CSU research collaboration are particularly welcome.
The Visiting Scholar Funding Scheme 2016 is expected to complement other Faculty initiatives leading to external research funding, including
the Research Workload Enhancement Scheme and the Grant Development and/or the Research Income and Initiatives Funding Scheme.
It is also expected that Visiting Scholars will make a wider contribution beyond the particular research interests of the applicant(s) to the School
/ Faculty and/or CSU. Applicants should discuss the proposal for visiting scholar funding with their School Research Committee, in suggesting
the role of the scholar in school activities, regional engagement, research workshops/training, seminars, or other activities, as appropriate.
Applications to request visiting scholar funding (up to $10,000) should be submitted using the appended format to Lisa McLean
(lmclean@csu.edu.au). Applications will be reviewed by the Associate Dean Research and two members of the Faculty Research and Graduate
Studies Committee as complete application forms are received. Selection will be based on:
- the research expertise of the visiting scholar;
- the potential to support or enhance current research collaborations or lead to new collaborative research projects within the School/Faculty;
- the potential to lead to new collaborations with external organisations or to form research-industry partnerships;
- the provision of research support for a number of researchers.
Please contact Prof Linda Harrison, (Acting) Associate Dean Research (lharrison@csu.edu.au) if you wish to discuss a proposed application.
Successful applicants must provide a detailed report on the outcomes of the visiting scholar funding at the completion of the visit.
