CDC Updates –
None. (No one from the CDC on call).
Coordinating Center Updates –
Walking Summit - The official happy hour this Thursday, 10/29, has been cancelled due to
unforeseen circumstances. We are looking to reschedule it for a time during the ALR
conference, so we’ll keep you posted. If folks still want to get together for an informal (nonsponsored) Happy Hour during the Walking Summit, you can meet at Oyamel Restaurant at
5:30pm on Thursday, 10/29. They accept reservations without a credit card for parties of
6 or less. No one on the call indicated they wanted to go to this.
ALR Conference - Early bird registration deadline is November 6th. There will be a session
at which collaborating centers will present their work. There will be a poster for each
Working Group.
Working Group Updates –
All of the Working Groups had their first call and each group drafted a mission and goals
one-pager. The one-pagers are being sent around to each Working Group member and
feedback would be appreciated. As the groups develop projects, they will be posted on the
website so people can see what is being worked on and how they can get involved. Be on
the lookout for follow-up communication from your Working Group. If you are interested
in joining a Working Group, contact Amanda Wilson at alw038@ucsd.edu.
Research in Progress –
Presenter: Jamie Chriqui presented a talk titled If you Zone for It, It Will Come:
Understanding the Association between Zoning, the Built Environment, and Physical Activity.
Open Mic –
The Journal of Transport and Health is publishing a supplement on Walking and
Walkability. The deadline for submission is February 29.
Any graduate students interested in helping to code Google Earth and aerial photos, please
contact Sandy Slater (sslater@uic.edu). Training will be provided.
