B-Tech 209 Online Resources and Collaboration – 5 Credits Summary With globalization of business, manufacturing, and IT development, there has been a significant improvement in technologies such as SharePoint, Google Apps, and WebEx. However, both new and existing workforces have not been adequately trained for using the technologies in most efficient ways. Businesses need employees who can effectively communicate and collaborate with team members geographically located far apart from each other. Furthermore, these tools are becoming common in traditional working environments as well. For example, increasing number of businesses are using SharePoint and other collaboration technologies as the main communication channel and information repository. Technologies to Consider Google Apps (Share) as the main platform MS SharePoint (if possible) Yahoo/Google Groups Google Docs MS Office Live MS Groove and OneNote WebEx and Elluminate SecondLife Collaboration The instructions should be based on projects (scenarios) for students working together. An introduction/review of concepts of project management should be included. Here is the course outline: Survey of communication issues and applications emerging from the ongoing development and utilization of digital media. Individuals and groups focus on functioning effectively within the frontier environment of cyberspace. Write and prepare material for digital formats. Prereq: ENGL& 101, ENGL& 102 or permission; access to the Internet, and basic email and word processing skills. I believe the course was developed by Sabra Schneider.
