Name: Jacqueline Tse Class number: 30 Class: 3C Comments on the Chief Executive’s Policy Address I am going to discuss the Tree Management policy and Anti-Drug Policy. The Tree Management policy is about greening our environment and protecting trees in Hong Kong. Trees help to beautify the living environment and improve the quality of air in Hong Kong. The Departments concerned will improve tree risk assessment arrangements, trainings, improve activities for community to take part in and public education. I think this Tree Management policy is not enough to solve all the problems. There is no specific legislation be enforced to care for trees. Before that tragic accident that killed a young girl in Stanley, the government did not check on trees regularly, but after the accident, the government sent out tree management workers to check on trees but due to the lack of knowledge and experiences, they cut down a lot of healthy trees. I suggest there should be specific legislation for caring of trees improves the training for tree risk assessment arrangement. Anti-Drug Policy is about community standing up against drug abuse. The Home Affairs Department has set up youth anti-drug abuse community programmes. The government started drug testing in some schools and help students with drug problems to quit drugs. I think this policy is not effective because students can refuse to take the drug test. If I were a student with drug problems, I wouldn’t take the test. And as a student without drug problems, I will not take the test also because I don’t think it is necessary. I think the government should put more effort on finding the sources of the drugs and cut them out, so people with drugs problems can’t find any drugs. The government should also put resources in developing youth welfare. So teenagers can participate in meaningful activities but not wasting their time on drugs. 300 words
