Westside High School Lesson Plan Teacher Name: Course: Geom Prep Team Geometry Prep Unit Name and #: Dates: Special Right Triangles 1/19 – 1/ 23 What are we learning? Daily Objective: TEKS/AP/Standards: How will we learn it? Monday Learning Activities: MLK Day How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Checks for Understanding: What do I need to be successful? Materials: What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Tuesday What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT remember the special relations of 3 sides in 45-45-90 right triangles and solve for missing sides for 45-45-90 triangles. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Exploring the trend: Use Pythagorean theorem to solve for the hypotenuse for several right triangles. The legs of the right triangles are 2 and 2, 3 and 3, 4 and 4 ect. Discover the trend: in a 45-45-90 right triangle, if each leg is x, the hypotenuse is 2 times one leg. Guided practices. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Homework/ Exit ticket Checks for Understanding: grade on accuracy. Warm up question at the beginning of the class on Wed/Thu. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Packet, notebook What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Wed/Thur What are we learning? Daily Objective: : SWBAT remember the special relations of 3 sides in 30-60-90 right triangles and solve for missing sides for 30-60-90 triangles. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Guided notes: in 30-60-90 right triangle, shortest leg is x, hypotenuse is 2 times the shortest leg and longer leg is 3 times shortest leg. Solve for missing side of 30-60-90 triangle by set up proportional equations. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: homework/exit ticket; quiz Checks for Understanding: feedback on homework/exit ticket and quiz What do I need to be successful? Materials: unit packet, notes What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Friday What are we learning? Daily Objective: practice on solving 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangle TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Independent practice on assigned problems. Guided practice on applying the special right triangles to real world problems. Students may work in groups and help each other on solving problems How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Unit test Checks for Understanding: ask students to explain questions and demonstrate solution step by step What do I need to be successful? Materials: unit packet, note What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW:
