Westside High School Lesson Plan Teacher Name: Course: Geom Prep Team Geometry Prep Unit Name and #: Dates: Special Right Triangles 1/26 – 1/ 30 Monday What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT review for exam over special right triangles TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Finalize understanding of special right triangles and the strategy needed to master concept. Have student’s focus on the process not simplifying answers. (Unless they are strong at this.) How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Have students pair up in which I will assign one problem in group (4545-90, then 30-60-90), in which one student works one type, while the other has to grade, and then switch. (After discussion of problems, students continue working on packet, with few presentations) Checks for Understanding: Listen to student’s conversations about problem; provide feedback to particular group when needed. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Packet, supplies, and eagerness to participate and be part of process. What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Study for exam by doing review. What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT take special right triangles exam How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Tuesday Guided practices. TEST How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: TEST What do I need to be successful? Materials: TEST What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Wed/Thur What are we learning? Daily Objective: : SWBAT learn the meaning of ratios of sides of right triangles of varying angle measurements TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Guided notes: Focusing on the common trigonometric ratios (Sine, Cosine, and Tangent) Go over labeling triangles with the appropriate markings and strategies to consistently label it the correct way. Talk about the ratios needed to solve the trig ratios, talk about SOH, CAH, TOA. (Have students personalize their own way of memorizing the ratio) How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: homework/exit ticket; Checks for Understanding: feedback on homework/exit ticket, volunteer presenter so other students can see a peer perform and see if they would of made the same mistakes What do I need to be successful? Materials: unit packet, notes Friday What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Exit ticket What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT learn more on trigonometric ratios and solving for the angle given the appropriate ratio. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A, G.5.D, G.7.C, G.9.B How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Go over calculator strategies and using the table (if available) to evaluate the angle. Have students explore on laptops certain trigonometric sites for guidance. Demonstrate to students the similarity between the process of solving the trigonometric problems and special right triangle problems How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Trig Quiz over ratios Checks for Understanding: Graded exit ticket, and checking quiz during class time for immediate feedback What do I need to be successful? Materials: unit packet, note What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Start application problems
