Westside High School Lesson Plan PreAP Teacher Name: Biology Team Unit Name and #: Unit 16 Matter & Energy Flow in Ecosystems Unit 17 Variations & Adaptations in Ecosystems Unit 18 Ecosystem relationships Tuesday Monday Course: Biology Dates: 3.2.15 – 3.6.15 What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will be able to distinguish primary succession from secondary succession and predict the ecological outcomes of various external influences. TEKS/AP/Standards: 11D: Describe how events and processes that occur during ecological succession can change populations and species diversity. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Guided notes, Online polls, quizzes and writing assignment using nearpod. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Group discussion, answers will be looked over by teacher Checks for Understanding: Online quiz questions What do I need to be successful? Materials: Laptop, Pen, Pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Finish worksheets not completed in class What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will analyze the role of microorganisms on an individual organisms and ecosystems. TEKS/AP/Standards: 12A: Interpret relationships that include predations, parasitism, commensalism, mutualism, and competition among organisms. 11C: Summarize the role of microorganisms in both maintaining and disrupting the health of both organisms and ecosystems. How will we learn it? Students will be given situation cards and must correctly determine the relationships between organisms. Guided notes will be filled in by students. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Think-Pair-Share Checks for Understanding: Online quizzes using nearpod What do I need to be successful? Materials: Laptop, Pen, Pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Finish worksheets not completed in class Wed/Thurs Friday What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will be able to identify the role of microorganisms in disrupting health and will be able to describe how energy flows through trophic levels. TEKS/AP/Standards: 11C: Summarize the role of microorganisms in both maintaining and disrupting the health of both organisms and ecosystems. 12C: Analyze the flow of energy and matter through trophic levels using various models including food chains, food webs, and ecological pyramids. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Guided notes, independent reading, creating a food web. Students will analyze different food chains and food webs. Students will be introduced to the 10% rule and will apply it to their food chain. Students will also identify organisms in their food chains who are autotrophs, heterotrophs, and the different levels of consumers. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Online quizzes using nearpod. Finished food web. Checks for Understanding: Online quizzes using nearpod. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Laptop, Pen, Pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Finish food web What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will summarize ecology unit vocabulary terms by creating a foldable or making flash cards. TEKS/AP/Standards: 11C: Summarize the role of microorganisms in both maintaining and disrupting the health of both organisms and ecosystems. 12C Analyze the flow of matter and energy through trophic levels using various models including food chains, food webs, and ecological pyramids. 12A: Interpret relationships that include predations, parasitism, commensalism, mutualism, and competition among organisms. 11D: Describe how events and processes that occur during ecological succession can change populations and species diversity.
