Stage 1 – Desired Results Content Standard(s): PAINTING UNIT – Part 1 Composition and Using Value/Intro to Color Wheel Create artworks in wet media using the elements and principles of design and a variety of painting materials. This unit will increase technical skills and critical thinking though an understanding of process, concept, and application. Understanding (s)/goals Students will understand that: Color wheel knowledge and application are essential to color harmony Values in color are achieved by mixing tints, tones and shades of various colors Paint application and craft will be explored Good composition and design will be used throughout the unit by applying the elements and principles of design Essential Question(s): What makes a good design? Why is good design important in a composition? How do the art elements work together to create a composition? How does and understanding of color harmony make a painting more interesting/ Student objectives (outcomes): Students will be able to: Design a composition for painting Understand e the elements and principles given Exhibit knowledge of color theory and harmony in color application Use a variety of tints, tones, and shades showing evidence of obtaining a range of complex values/colors Obtain a sufficient amount of variety throughout the painting Performance Task(s): Stage 2 – Assessment Evidence Other Evidence: Projects: 1.
