Week of October13-17, 2014 Weekly Learning Targets Teacher: Kindred Team: U.S. History I can complete a major grade project highlighting the imperialist motives of the United States at the turn of the 20th century. I can analyze how Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism were the MAIN causes of World War I. I can identify how the American Expeditionary Force (AEF), the Battle of Argonne Forest, the Western Front, Alvin York and General John J. Pershing were significant during World War I. I can analyze how the wartime innovations of the machine gun, airplanes, tanks, poison gas, and trench warfare led to a stalemate on the Western Front during WWI. Monday Activities 1. Do Now- Take out a pencil and your study guide. 2. Unit 2 Test: Imperialism and Reform- Students will complete a major grade assessment consisting of 32 multiple-choice questions. *MAJOR GRADE* Materials: Tests Follow Up/HW: Project DUE ON FRIDAY *MAJOR GRADE* Wed/Thur Activities: 1. Do Now- List 2 examples of American imperialism. 2. Imperialism Project Introduction- Students will go over the steps to complete a major grade project over Unit 2. Students must write reactions to statements regarding imperialist motives and analyze documents. *MAJOR GRADE* 3. Unit 2 Review- Students will answer questions from their study guide. Afterwards, students will engage in a game of Jeopardy to prepare for their exam next class. Materials: Project instructions, study guides Follow Up/HW: Unit 2 Test TOMORROW *MAJOR GRADE* Tuesday I can analyze how Wilson’s 14 Points [League of Nations], the Treaty of Versailles, and [the effects of] U.S. involvement in WWI led to a desire for isolationism and neutrality following WWI. Activities: PSAT DAY- MODIFIED BELL SCHEDULE 1. Do Now- How did the Spanish American War affect the United States? 2. Introduction to World War I: Essential Question Discussion- Students will discuss how conflicts among nations escalate to war. 3. Causes of World War I: Video Analysis- Students will watch a video clip and answer questions regarding the outbreak of the Great War. 4. World War I: Guided Notes- Students will take notes over the main events of World War I. 5. World War I Mapping Activity- Students will label the European alliances and fronts where majority of the fighting took place.
