Assessing Credibility
- Evaluating credibility is key to determining truth when testimonies are
conflicting
- Believability
- Open-ended questions allow for students to best represent themselves
- Leading questions, close-ended, and multiple choice questions are
ineffective
- Beware of run-around logic and/or questions that use jargon that
students may not be familiar with
Effective Faculty Involvement
- Faculty advisor for faculty accuser, advocate in department meetings
- How does this transfer to UVA?
-
-

- Goals: Representative of campus, quality of members
- Targeted information sessions
- Issues: retention of info, feeling of unity, attendance, specialization
- More social events, recognition as a student organization
Honor and An Internationalized University
- How do we not put international students in harm’s way while promoting
integrity in an ethnically diverse world?
- How does Honor adjust to more internationalized student body?
- Honor as a morally charged word
- Increase international student’s ownership of the system
- Cultural awareness honor orientation
Student Outreach
- All schools face difficulties in getting people invested in the Honor System
- Work with UGuides on Honor talks
- Invite specific interest groups to different Honor committee meetings
- “Honor Week”
- Whiteboard Campaigns: write what honor means to you, take a photo,
receive swag, food, etc.
Sanctioning at William & Mary
- Tiered table of sanctions at W&M resulted in more consistency across
sanctions applied and less leniency
- Presumptive sanctioning- sanctions associated with each act or type of
act, council can assign alternate sanctions
-
Upside- provides space for taking circumstances into consideration
-
Downside- allows for more decision-making, when one of the attractive
aspects of our current system is the clear application of all sanctions
