Second Grade
Reading
Science
Students will be reading fiction
texts. Students will identify
differences in the points of
view of characters. Students
will also be focusing on how
characters respond to major
events and challenges. This
month we are also focusing on
identifying adverbs and verbs.
Students will be learning about
the survival of plants and
animals in familiar and unfamiliar
habitats. We will also be learning
about the life cycles of plants
and animals. We will continue
observing the phases of the
moon throughout the month.
Over the next few weeks we
will continue to focus on
opinion writing. Students will
research an animal they think
would make the best pet.
Students will use the
information they find to write
an opinion and support it with
reasons.
Students will start learning
about economics. We start the
unit by focusing on specialized
workers. We will be identifying
human, natural, and capital
resources. Students will also
work on identifying and
describing different types of
markets.
Writing
Math
The students will start
learning about time. In this
unit they will tell time to 5
minute intervals and identify
AM and PM. Later this month
students will learn about
equal parts of a whole. We
will also begin using arrays
as a strategy to solve
problems. Students will
continue to practice their
facts to 20 as well as
composing and decomposing.

Lectura
Los estudiantes leerán textos
de ficción. Los estudiantes
identificarán las diferencias en
los puntos de vista de los
personajes. Los estudiantes
también se centrarán en cómo
los personajes responden a los
grandes acontecimientos y
desafíos. Este mes también nos
estamos centrando en la
identificación
de los adverbios y

animal que piensan que sería
la mejor mascota. Los

Los estudiantes comenzaran a
aprender acerca del tiempo. En
esta unidad van a decir la hora a
intervalos de 5 minutos e
identificaran AM y PM. A finales de
este mes los estudiantes
aprenderán acerca de partes
iguales de un total. También
vamos a comenzar a utilizar
matrices como una estrategia
para resolver problemas. Los
estudiantes continuarán
practicando sus sumas y restas
hasta 20, así también como la
composición y descomposición.
Ciencia
Los estudiantes aprenderán
acerca de la supervivencia de las
plantas y los animales en
hábitats conocidos y
desconocidos. También vamos a
aprender acerca de los ciclos de
vida de plantas y animales.
Vamos a seguir observando las
fases de la luna durante todo el
mes.
