Doctoral Workshop: Researching Youth in Conflict Contexts Dr Marc Sommers Friday 1st February @ 2-5pm pm Room: Jubilee 135 The Centre for International Education (CIE), the Centre for Innovation and Research in Childhood and Youth (CIRCY) and the Security and Social Justice Research Theme are coorganising a workshop for doctoral students and young researchers on the methodological, ethical and political challenges of researching youth in conflict contexts, led by Dr. Marc Sommers, an internationally recognized youth expert, anthropologist and a visiting researcher with Boston University’s African Studies Center. Dr. Sommers is the author of seven books, including Stuck: Rwandan Youth and the Struggle for Adulthood; Islands of Education: Schooling, Civil War, and the Southern Sudanese (1983– 2004) and Fear in Bongoland: Burundi Refugees in Urban Tanzania, which received the Margaret Mead Award in 2003. The workshop will be open to a maximum of 20 people.
